Does your company have ISO 9000 & QS-9000 certification?
Yes. Coats China is the only thread manufacturing company in China to obtain ISO 9002 & QS-9000 certification in both Production and Service. This demonstrates Coats' commitment to providing better quality products to our customers.

Are there any carcinogenic materials in your threads?
No. We have obtained the Oko-Tex Standard 100 Certificate in Product Class I for babies, for all our dyed sewing and embroidery thread made of polyester, rayon, nylon and polyester-cotton, for use in apparel, footwear and related industries. This certificate is a normative document, published by the International Association for Research and Testing in the field of Textile Ecology.

What kind of thread should I use for a garment that is to be washed and bleached, for example by enzymes or acid?
We recommend our Astra Rugged Heavy Duty Polyester Thread for denim. It is a polyester thread that is specially designed for high performance sewing. It is manufactured using imported high tenacity stabilized polyester fibre. It has many outstanding properties which make it superior to other spun polyester threads: it is resistant to perspiration and chemical attack, it is suitable for tropical conditions, and it provides high colour fastness in all normal conditions of use.

How can we convert the thicket sizes between Hong Kong and the US?
We have a ticket card describing different ticketing systems in use. Please contact our local sales team.

What is Coats' standard of color fastness to washing?
Our standard is ISO 105-C03. For bleaching and heat exposure of thread colours beyond test conditions, fastness may vary. If you have any queries, please contact our local technical advisor.

Does your company have any commitment to equal employment opportunity, the environment, or workplace health and safety?
Coats has policies on Fair Employment Practices, the Worldwide Environment, and Health and Safety, and as a company we are very concerned about these issues. These policies are formulated by our board and implemented throughout the world.

Coats is a worldwide organization, how can you standardize all your products and quality levels in different countries?
For colour standardization, we have a worldwide shade reference called the Global Colour Reference (GCR). Our technical service centres in the UK and US provide new products and technical information, and standardize the information that each supplying company receives. With regard to quality standardization, we have quality meetings in order to provide stable, quality products.

Can Coats provide us with technical support?
Yes. If you have questions about the application of sewing thread, our technical manager is always available to provide technical service, support, and seminars for you.

What is Sewing Thread?
Sewing thread ¡V a small diameter yarn or twisted strand, usually treated with a surface coating or lubricant or both , intended to be used to stitch one or more pieces of material or an object to a material.

What is tex size number?
Tex size number ¡V the number assignes to a sewing thread to designate its approximate linear density. The tex number is an indicator of the minimum amount of fibre present. The smaller the number, the finer the thread ( lesser amount of fibre); and the larger the number , the coarser the thread (greater amount of fibre)

What is linear density?
Linear density ¡V mass per unit length; the quotient obtained by dividing the mass of a fibre or yarn by its length.

What is grey thread?
Grey thread ¡V unfinished sewing thread after final twisting or an equivalent step in a processing sequence such as extruding, texturing or braiding.

What is cotton count?
Cotton count ¡V the number of 840 yard lenghts of yarn per pound; an indirect yarn numbering system generally used for yarns/threads spun on the cotton system.

What is denier?
Denier ¡V a direct yarn numbering system for expressing linear density, equal to the mass in grams per 9000m yarn. Filament, fibre or other textile strand.

What is linen count?
Linen count ¡V the number of 300 yard lenghts of yarn per pound; an indirect yarn numbering system.

What is worsted count?
Worsted count ¡V the number of 560 yard lenghts of yarn per pound; an indirect yarn numbering system generally used for yarns spun on the worsted system.

What is metric count?
Metric count ¡V the number of metres of yarn per gram; an indirect yarnnumbering system.

What is yarn number?
Yarn number ¡V a measure of the fineness or size of a yarn exressed either as ¡¥mass per unit length¡¦
Or length per unit mass depending upon the yarn numbering system used.

What is yarn numbering system?
Yarn numbering system ¡V a system expressing the size of a yarn as a relation ship between its length and associated mass.

What is indirect yarn numbering system?
Indirect yarn numbering system ¡V a system that expresses yarn number in length per unit mass or reciprocal of linear density.

What are conversion factors for various numbering systems?
